Some people think that inmates are criminals, sinners and problem of the nation, community and family. They are people with no hope, no bright future and need to be punished and put to the jail. But in God’s eyes, they are people who need repentance, salvation, transformation, discipleship training and a chance to be used by God in a mighty way.
When we started the jail ministry at BJMP san Mateo, for three months, the inmates were so resistant to the Word of God. They have many questions and complaints but by God’s grace and mercy and after patiently sharing the Word of god for seven months, they accepted the Lord and understood that God has a reason and purpose why they are in jail. One of the inmates before and now being freed is Jomel who testified that he thank the Lord for allowing him to be jailed and be one of the inmates because this led him in knowing and accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. He is now very active in church and is helping Bro. Henry Rustia in the Food for Thought or feeding mi nistry.
We used the booklet “The Answer” as a start to disciple the inmates. By God’s help and guidance, we finished the booklet within three months and we observed the big change in the lives of the inmates. As their mentors, we are so excited and very much inspired to mingle, talk, share and eat with them. Having established a good relationship and fellowship with them, they began to trust us and share to us even their deepest personal problems. Friendship started to sprout and this gave us the opportunity to share about “Christian Life” and “The Life of Jesus”.
Last first week of September 2009, we finished sharing about Christian Life and one of the topic that we taught them is about the water baptism. A lot of questions were raised but by the Holy Spirit’s anointing, we were able to explain it to them for them to fully understand. After that, many inmates, around 17 of them, decided to be baptized in water last September 16, 2009 and they were full of joy and excitement in starting a new life with Christ Jesus. To God be the glory!
